BROADSIDES POETRY READING SERIES AT CBA TONIGHT!

Two of my favorite poets read
TONIGHT
at 6:30 at the Center for Book Arts in NYC

Mónica de la Torre and Anna Moschovakis

A reception accompanies the reading, and a limited-edition broadside print of work by each poet is produced by an artist at the Center and distributed at the reading.

Mónica de la Torre has published poetry and conceptual art books in Spanish and English, including the artist book Appendices, Illustrations and Notes (Smart Art Press) and the poetry books Acúfenos (Taller Ditoria) and Talk Shows (Switchback Books). She is co-editor of the multilingual anthology Reversible Monuments: Contemporary Mexican Poetry (Copper Canyon) and translator and editor of the bilingual volume Poems by Gerardo Deniz (Taller Ditoria/Lost Roads).

Anna Moschovakis is the author of a book of poems, I Have Not Been Able to Get Through to Everyone (Turtle Point Press), and of several chapbooks. Her translations from the French include texts by Henri Michaux, Claude Cahun, Pierre Alféri, Annie Ernaux and Blaise Cendrars. She is also an editor at Ugly Duckling Presse.

This reading has been organized and will be introduced by Rodrigo Toscano, the author of To Leveling Swerve

Platform, The Disparities, and Partisans.

THE CHAPBOOK REVIEW

At the Celebration of the Chapbook hosted by CUNY I was lamenting the fact that very few of the Cuneiform chapbooks had been reviewed, and even went so far as to suggest that I would be reluctant to publish another unless the manuscript called for that form in particular. Now, it seems that a group of individuals have come together to review chapbooks. Check it out at: http://www.thechapbookreview.com/

WNYBAC

I've just returned to Brooklyn from an outstanding Poet-Publisher Symposium at the University at Buffalo organized by Andrew Rippeon and Richard Owens. You can see the program of events by clicking here. Of course, it is always great to be back in the town where I lived (2001-2007), and seeing friends, old and new, was certainly the most fun part of the trip. Special thanks to Jim and Lauren Maynard for hosting a warm and generous reception in their beautiful new home! Aside from the symposium and readings, the other real highlight was visiting the Western New York Book Arts Collaborative, a dream come true. It was also wonderful to meet the terrific Vandercook guru Paul Moxon, who was in town doing a maintenance workshop.

Above, a picture of Hal Leader (all photos by Brenda Iijima, with thanks). Hal generously invited me to us Paradise Press in downtown Buffalo a number of years ago, and I still don't quite know how to thank him for giving me permission to study and make use of his historic collection of type.
